Docs

Docs hold everything that isn't a task: specs, notes, meeting minutes, decks, data and diagrams. They live alongside your tasks, link to them, and can turn into them.

#Making a doc

Press c o, or use the + on Docs in the sidebar, and pick a kind. A new doc opens straight away, titled "Untitled" and private to you (Only me) — type over the title and start writing. Share it from the access chip next to its name when it's ready (see Spaces & sharing).

#Kinds of doc

KindWhat it's for
PageWriting: notes, specs, a wiki page.
SlidesA deck to present, one slide per section. Present shows it full screen.
DatabaseRows and typed columns, seen as a table, board, calendar or timeline. Import and export CSV files.
JSONStructured data, as a tree, a flat list or raw.
DiagramA flowchart, sequence or Gantt chart, written in Mermaid.
WhiteboardA freehand canvas: shapes, arrows, sketches and notes.
draw.ioFlowcharts, architecture and org charts, drawn precisely.

A page can be switched to slides and back without losing anything. Most kinds can be downloaded from the doc's menu (Download as … Markdown, JSON, Mermaid, Excalidraw or draw.io).

#Writing in a page

  • Formatting shows as you type: **bold**, # for a heading, - for a list.
  • Type / for a menu of blocks — headings, lists and checklists, tables, code blocks, formulas, an image or an embed from a link, a live task list, a sub-page, an existing doc, or a new database, diagram, whiteboard or deck placed inside the page.
  • Select text for the formatting toolbar.
  • Type @ to link a person, task, project, view, dashboard, doc, label or channel. Mentioning someone tells them.
  • An empty page offers outlines to start with.

Your writing saves a moment after you stop typing. If someone else changes the same doc while you have unsaved changes, a bar asks which version to keep.

#Turning a checklist into tasks

Put the cursor in a checklist item (or select several) and press ⌘/CtrlShiftEnter, or choose Make tasks on the selection toolbar. Each item becomes a task, and the item turns into a chip showing that task's live status.

#Organising docs

  • Docs in the sidebar (g o) shows every doc you can see as a tree: a doc's sub-docs sit under it. Each row shows who can see it, its status and when it last changed.
  • Every doc has a status (Draft, In review, …) — see Doc statuses.
  • Attach docs to tasks and projects: they show in the task's or project's Docs. A doc lists what it's attached to and what links to it.

Delete a doc with d d or Move to Trash; it can be restored from the Trash.
