Keyboard shortcuts

Almost everything in Plan Things Better can be done from the keyboard. You don't need to memorise any of it: the app shows you as you go.

#The reference: ?

Press ? anywhere for the full list of shortcuts. The ones that work right where you are have a dot; the rest are dimmed, with where they do work. Search it by name or by keys, or turn on Works in … to see only what works in the tab you're in. Open in a pane keeps it open beside your work.

Hover a button to see its shortcut in the tooltip.

#Search and commands: ⌘K / CtrlK

⌘K on a Mac, CtrlK elsewhere, opens search over the whole workspace — tasks, projects, docs, views, dashboards, labels and members. It also lists actions to create things, and finds shortcuts by name: type "split" or "board" to run them from there. It works even while you're typing in a text box.

#Two-key shortcuts

Most shortcuts are two keys pressed one after the other — a letter for the family, then a letter for the action. Pause after the first key and a panel shows what can follow.

First keyFamilyExamples
gGo to…g t Tasks, g i Inbox, g p Projects, g o Docs, g c Chat, g a Activity, g s Settings
cCreate…c t task, c p project, c o doc, c v view, c d dashboard, c c channel
uUpdate…u s status, u p priority, u a assignee, u l labels, u d due date, u n rename
zLayout…z l List, z b Board, z t Timeline, z c Calendar, z d Canvas
tTab…t p pin, t u reopen closed tab, t t find a tab
wPane…w v split right, w s split down, w z maximize
aArrangement…a a all arrangements, a s save these panes
d dDeleteMove to Trash (in the Trash: delete forever)

The u shortcuts work on the focused task, on every selected task, or on the task whose tab you're in.

#In lists, menus and pickers

  • j / k or the arrows move; Enter opens or picks; Escape closes or clears the selection.
  • x selects, v starts a range, ⌘/CtrlA selects all.
  • . (or Shift+F10) opens the right-click menu of whatever is focused.
  • In any menu or picker, Alt/Option+J and Alt/Option+K move too — even while your cursor is in its search box.

#Getting help

  • g h opens this Help in a tab.
  • [ collapses or expands the sidebar.

Shortcuts that create or change things only work if your role lets you — a guest can't create tasks, and only admins create labels and statuses.
